Duck Calls with George Martin

Making a Duck Call
You will leave this class with a duck call. You will not learn how to actually call a duck with your duck call. You can go to youtube for that. In terms of woodturning this is basic spindle turning. We will turn the large part (4” long) and it will be drilled out with a 3/4 inch drill bit. The shorter segment (2”) will be turned separately with a 1/2 inch hole. I will provide the three parts of the reed and the O rings needed. I will also provide the hard wood blanks. Cost for these supplies is $5.
The challenge comes with making a tenon on the 2” top of the call and fitting it into 3/4 inch hole on the large part allowed just enough room for the “O” rings to seal it tight. You can finish the surface at home.
Bring you favorite spindle turning gauges. Bring two bits: 3/4 inch (at least five inches long) and 1/2” bit. Keyless or Key drill chuck. Sandpaper.
