Can we challenge ourselves to move beyond just making bowls and through small changes in our thinking move to making a better bowl that becomes a family heirloom? This demonstration will start with the purpose of a bowl and its user. After considering these questions, we can focus on wood species, size, shape, and the role of the rim and the foot to create a better work. Lastly. the role of finish in bowl design will also be discussed. During the demonstration I will show a series of bowls that fell short of this standard that I have made and my self criticism of why they could be better when critically reviewed.
Although we will never achieve the "perfect: bowl, we can maybe make conscious decisions ( as opposed to accidentail ones) that make our bowls a little better.
