This class, designed for novice turners will focus on the fundamentals of woodturning. With an emphasis on safety, the participant will learn the basics of the lathe and its operation. Using spindle turning as the foundation. you will learn grain orientation, making a tenon, roughing a blank to round, and how to use a spindle gouge to create coves and beads.
You will have lots of practice with these cuts, and in the last hour, you will have the opportunity to create a turning such as a top, a wine stopper, a dibble. a honey dipper or a tool handle.
The class lasts 3 hours and there is a morning and afternoon class. The first class starts at 9:00 am and the afternoon class starts at 1:00 pm.
Class fee is $40, payable at registration.
What to bring:
1. Eye protection, a face shield is the recommendation
2. A smock
3. A spindle roughing gouge, a 1/4" spindle gouge, and a parting tool. All tools should be sharp and ready to use.
4. 3 or 4 Blanks 2" square and 6 to 7 " long. If you need blanks, there will be blanks available to purchase from the instructor for $5 each. Cash only.
5. Sandpaper, 150, 180, and 220 grit
