Professional Demonstrators
From time to time we have professional woodturners
meet with the members and give us demonstrations. We also have an
opportunity for a few members to attend a small group session so
they may get some one on one time with these professional woodturners.
| Stu Batty-
One Good Turn
September 29, 2007, Stuart Batty appeared on the scene for the MN Woodturner's demonstration weekend - tools and high spirits; ready to roll. Not at all bashful and prepared like a pro, Stu has done 100's of presentations at the lathe. Stuart Batty began turning early, really early at the age of 10 as an apprentice to his father in the UK. He is a 3rd generation turner who now resides in Boulder, CO working the lathe and traveling around doing demos... and more. We could tell he had it all worked out; exactly what he wanted to share in the ways of woodturning and share it he did. There was the lathe, of course, tools, lights, camera and wood (huh! Thought it would be action, right?). Well action couldn't begin to cover it all.

Andi Wolfe, Woodturner and a Whole Lot More
On Saturday October the 30th the Minnesota Woodturners were treated to what many of us had no idea how to create, beautiful finished pieces such as Andi does.
Andi is a botanist at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and a woodturner when she can find the time. She creates artistic pieces that are in very high demand. She copies leaves, vines and other natural plant parts to create her unusual pieces. She has developed a process that has put her at the top of her field in artistic turnings.

| Trent Bosch - Vessels of Illusion
On Saturday September, 18th Minnesota Woodturners were treated to a demonstration of woodturning of a different kind than many of us had ever seen before. Trent Bosch from Ft Collins, CO a woodturner for the past 14 years demonstrated how to create a hollow vessel with the illusion of another vessel of a different species of wood projecting from the top of it. Two vessels one inside of the other and no splitting of the outer one to make the inner one fit inside of it. How does he do that? Was a common question before Trent started the demo.

Getting Started Right with Alan Lacer
Alan
spent the day with club members talking about getting started
in woodturning. Turners of all experience levels were there
and I think that everyone, new and experienced, walked away
with some good knowledge.

| The Minnesota Woodturners Association was proud to host David Ellsworth
For three days, David spent the in Minnesota and Wisconsin sharing with us his techniques in bowl turning and hollowing.
No demonstration would be complete
without David mounting the lathe. He explained that sitting
on the lathe bed gives him a better tool angle for hollowing.
To see more about David's visit,
please see our December
2003 Newsletter.
